You have beaten me to the punch on several points you correctly summarized, succinctly and correctly.
Fact #1: Russia was THE heart and soul of the so-called 'soviet union'.
Russia FOUNDED the 'soviet union'.
Fact #2: ALL THE LEADERS OF THE SOVIET UNION had to be RUSSIAN - whether born within the geographical boundaries of Russia or not. NUMBER 1 requirement was they be ONLY LOYAL TO MOTHER RUSSIA - unflinching and proven filial loyalty as True Red adopted sons of the mother country. No exceptions allowed.
Fact #3. Hitler would not have been able to start WWII without the alliance of RUSSIA - which he obtained. Hitler made his own Waterloo by later turning on his allie.
The 'enemy of my enemy' does not make for an 'allie' at best a shotgun wedding of convenience. Russia was NOT an 'allie' of the United States - but the Russian splitting of German forces, due solely to US aid, was crucial in hastening the end of Der Feuhrer.
Fact #4: Russia is still under control of one of the most vicious and murderous thugs of Their previous Soviet Empire - the KGB goon known as Putin.
SO, not directed at Zim, quit the propaganda about how Russia and the Soviet Union were 'two different' countries. They were not, and are not.
Fact #5: Russia has a long sordid and ugly history of Imperialism and have been a direct threat to almost ALL the European Countries at one time. [b]THEY STILL ARE, and Putin, the CURRENT LEADER OF RUSSIA has long and loudly stated his personal objective of retaking all the lost empire of Mother Russia.
Russia has a LONG WAY TO GO before NATO becomes obsolete.
Europe would be absolutely BRAIN DEAD to consider disbanding NATO - as strongly urged by unceasing Russian propaganda. They have absolute historical evidence, spanning MUCH MORE than a single century, of the aggressive imperialism of RUSSIA and absolutely should keep a strong defense (ie. NATO) against continuing Russian aggression. Russia is STILL A VERY VIABLE THREAT TO ALL OF EUROPE.
