Re: “If I were to do it all over again, I would mostly try to better use height”
I once worked in an office with a warehouse. The warehouse's overhead area was a vast pool of styrofoam pellets. The guys filling the boxes only had to pull a cord on the nearest chute in order to send the styrofoam exactly where it was needed. Without that, it would've been a god-awful mess. It still was, in fact, at the end of each day when they had to clean up. You've all experienced trying to get a single piece of styrofoam off of your hand. Now imagine working with thousands of pounds of it, day in and day out.

Maybe only Micro will have some appreciation for this as a topic? If I were to do it all over again, I would mostly try to better use height - for both processing and gravity fed storage of components. Of course I am not sure what the rules are regarding minimum clearance above. The problem is when you are doing something for the first time, in a tilt up building, it is hard to know what to plan for. ;-/ What sort of "engineering" speciality is plant design? Anyone know??

Of course, I am sure Tesla is a billion miles beyond this in their ability to utilize space cost effectively. I heard Elon talk about the expertise he has built up since his "Fremont" plant with the first Teslas. He said something like 'There are 15,000 distinct building steps in putting together a Tesla; every component needs to arrive PRECISELY on time. Everything needs to be measured. If even a single step in those 15,000 goes slightly wrong, the entire process has to be halted, it destroys the efficiency of production of not just that vehicle, but all the others in front and behind it, and the additional cost is immense.'
