Yes, sure, it is best for him to put his understanding and expertise toward his own best interests. But:
(1) People are recognize his advances and attempt to adopt them in their own businesses, anyway. That is already underway.
(2) It is ABSOLUTELY in Musk's best interest to have the USA transformation into world-leading manufacturer AND fount-of-freedom happen as quickly and smoothly as possible. If it takes longer than 2027 to prove He and Trump are leading to a clearly better future, he is screwed -- and he may need to move, personally, to Mars to stay ahead of the antediluvian, totalitarians, LENINIST SUB-HUMANS.
(3) He doesn't seem to have any shortage of good business ideas. And he obviously cleans-the-clock of anyone who attempts to compete directly with him: anyone think "Blue Origin" is a winner?

Re: “Musk is undoubtedly the world's most knowledgeable person on how to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant”
Wouldn't you think that Musk would rather put his best-in-the-world knowledge into businesses that he owns or controls? If he shares with his competitors or even with miscellaneous unrelated businesses, before you know it his factories won't be so dominant. Worst of all, China might pick up on how to do some of what he does.
