I brought this up previously, when I was asking opinions on TSLA stock. Here's an article on the same topic. I think *most* people think the Trump plan is to "kind of" build back the auto and other manufacturing plants we had 50 years ago...more or less traditional.
I don't think that is a good plan, at all, and I don't think that would work: the Chinese plants were surely a leap beyond that, and probably drew a lot from Japanese advances in robotics in manufacturing.
But I am thinking the new plants have an opportunity to jump to the front of the line -- WAY beyond anthing available in China, S. Korea, or Japan. AI systems -- even without general intelligence should enable vast improvements in improved efficiency (deployment of resources and parts), integrating sub-parts manufacture on site (not farmed out to 3rd parties), JIT availability, reduction and minute tracking/capture of waste, and micro-flow control.
Musk is undoubtedly the world's most knowledgeable person on how to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant, with massive computer/robotics control. He learned hands on, doing that with his Giga-factories, his SpaceX manufacturing, etc. etc. etc. And I am pretty sure he is thinking about manufacture on the moon...and maybe even Mars.
But bringing the USA up to date on manufacture is where we need things to start! It seems *possible*, based upon his 12-18 start to finish gigafactory buildouts that the US actually could surge to the front in manufacturing 4 years....in time for the 2028 elections. But things need to go at hyper speed. And I suspect the real shortage is going to be in human workers who have sufficient tech knowledge to "manage" the automation of such a computerized manufacturing plant.
Damn. I wish I knew how to do that!
