Just got back from taking miz micro to the orthopedic surgeon to set up her knee replacement surgery for the near future.
De,
here's the thing. MOSES wrote the first five Books of the OLD TESTAMENT. These are referred to as the Pentateuch. God Himself actually appeared to Moses more than once.
He also told him what to do about various situations that Moses followed and the Israelites were freed from Egyptian bondage by the strong arm of God.
As a Bible origins student I feel more than qualified to answer your your skepticism regarding accuracy.
You are not the first one to do so and won't be the last.
The BIBLE states that there are fresh waters running through the depths of the oceans.
How many skeptics do ya think were howling over that statement? Including our very own non-believers of the Oceanic Institute right here in America. A fine collections of scientists without any faith or belief either. They mocked this scripture as well.
Then one day they discovered fresh water large volume of flowing fresh waters at the bottom of the oceans next to the Gulf Stream..
Can you imagine how red there faces should have been?
God didn't know what HE was talking about. Men 2000 years later obviously knew more than the ONE who spoke earth into existence, placed it exactly at the right distance from the SUN He also created so it would not burn up but have all the sunlight and heat it required to sustain life.
As for Goliath, He was MUCH BIGGER than the average Jewish men of that time and stood far taller than them. So, in essence, he was a Giant to them.
If I stood next to some of these guys in the NBA who are 7'5"inches tall they would be a giant to me.
Scripture does not say that Goliath was TEN FEET tall or NINE FEET tall either. It describes him as a Giant, compared to the other people of those nations.
Typically no more than 5 and a half feet tall. So someone who was over 7 foot would be a "giant" compared to them..
Perspective is the thing to keep in mind.. Knowing the statures of the average in the middle east of men in those days is also important.
Its amazing that every single Prophecy written in the Bible has come to pass and happened except the final one.. And that one is coming to a head fast..
IN order to see things that were the result of FAITH and Trust in GOD and doing what HE commanded in spite of their doubts, one must believe that HE IS and that HE is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him."
PSALMS Chapter 6, verses 6-7

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever

GOD'S WORDS are ALWAYS TRUE and ALWAYS RIGHT. No matter when our puny little mind cannot fully comprehend the full intent of what was said..

Beldin:

Re: “Whether Goliath was 6'9" or 9'9" was and is irrelevant. ”
I'm not criticizing David and Goliath. It's a good story. It's the Bible itelf as a historical and accurate record that I'm criticizing.

Today's finding that there is a three foot discrepancy in the various Bibles' descriptions of one of its best known characters proves that I was right when I said, "I describe it as a book of well intentioned parables not to be taken literally."

Hm. Or is it only the Old Testament that withers under scrutiny?
