I favor the use of tariffs, but am counting on:
(1) they bring back factories and higher paid factory jobs.
(2) They allow the ordinary income tax on wages below $150k to be eliminated.

Neither (1) nor (2) can be really expected to bear significant fruit within Trump's four year term. Think about it:

(1) Factories take YEARS to plan and build. Great jobs growth will likely take years more, as there is almost nothing left of factory skills left in the US. It is likely a 10-20 horizon before enough people see the payback.

(2) How can the ordinary income tax be dropped within four years, given the horrible debt levels?

So, I am hoping the tariffs are only a lead up to a second surprise move of some sort. I've got a lot of faith in that, in fact, as Trump knows the impediments to tariffs, alone, producing massive, positive returns, on their own.

I also think the current regime was already in collapse before Trump came into his 2nd term. So it wasn't really a choice to NOT try something shocking unexpected.

And, yeah, this business of people making a lot of money in the stock market in order to retire didn't work all that well from 1930-1984. People tend to think it is somehow the natural order of things. It isn't -- it was the direct result of:

(1) US DROPPING Tariffs post WW2.

(2) US SHUTTERED its Factories, and removed currency exchange restrictions Post 1984 Plaza Accord.

(3) REAGAN was responsible for the Plaza Accord. He was ALSO repsponsible for massive changes to US tax law to encourage stock speculation, discourage real estate speculation, destroy factory jobs in the US, and destroy US hands-on skills, unions, pensions, and dividend-paying-stocks.

It is NOT a "coincidence" that REAGAN's regime OVERSAW THE rapid US transition FROM THE WORLD'S BIGGEST CREDITOR TO THE WORLD'S BIGGEST DEBTOR. Reagan did some good things (vs Carter). He also F**ked ordinary Americans like no-one before. Reagan was the primary architect of America's unpayable debt. Let's not forget the facts of history.

"Conservatives" don't like to talk about that great betrayal and dirty secret -- Reagan sucking up to his Masters and, perhaps, not being all that bright about how things actually worked in terms of economics. Reagan DESTROYING US Autarky. Reagan running up the credit cards like no-one before him. Reagan destroying the idea of factory work, hands-on skills, and Pensioned retirement. He encouraged us to bury ourselves with unpayable debt and substantially forced us to stocks, instead. (Reserving 'pensions' only for the Masters and Public Serpents.)

But stocks, as popular as they currently are, have been chief beneficiaries of the destruction of the US manufacturing edge. And the blowing of the biggest Debt Bubble (by far) in the history of the world. I don't think we should mistake that as unassociated. And I don't think we should assume the reign of stock markets will continue as reverse gears and go "back to the future" of manufacturing / industrial powerhouse once again.

Ever since our 'day of liberation,' our pals on the Left, in the Democratic Party, in the media, and even some on the Right have been pulling their hair out claiming that Trump is deliberately tanking our economy.

About that ...

Election Wizard (@ElectionWiz) ~ BREAKING: U.S. NATIONAL ECONOMIC COUNCIL DIRECTOR KEVIN HASSETT SAYS MORE THAN 50 COUNTRIES HAVE REACHED OUT TO WHITE HOUSE TO BEGIN TRADE NEGOTIATIONS

Trump's tariffs were never about starting and maintaining a worldwide trade war out of spite. They are all about forcing other countries to start negotiating reciprocal and fair trade practices ... just like Nancy Pelosi highlighted back in 1996!

MAZE (@mazemoore) ~ Incredible clip from 1996. Nancy Pelosi on tariffs and the trade deficit with China.

"On this day, your member of Congress could have drawn the line to say to the President of the United States, do something about this US-China trade relationship that is a job loser for the United States."

Thirty years later and our annual trade deficit is now approximately $300 billion annually with China. Our politicians did nothing to stop this. They sold out America.

Now politicians, including Pelosi, are saying that not only China, but all countries should be able to tariff us and we shouldn't respond in kind.

Of course, in Piglosi's defense, this was 1996 - before alcohol ate her liver and her Marxist-fueled Trump Derangement Syndrome destroyed her mind and her soul. Poor Miss Piggy!

But THE EXPERTS have told us tariffs are bad, that Trump is bad, and that everything will be bad because REEEEEE.

Tariffs are tools, just like firearms ... to be carefully used, with a healthy dose of respect for the damage they can cause, to ultimately de-escalate and subdue dangerous situations.

How could this be? The 'experts' were wrong, again? SAY IT AIN'T SO.

Huh. And here we thought the 'experts' were the smartest people in the room. WE ARE SO KIDDING.

Airborne (@abnheel) ~ As was expected, everyone that lost their minds about tariffs are the same people who happily destroyed the economy due to covid. Kindly tell them all to f^ck off - professionals are at work this time.

Misha Turtle Island TV: X Society Xperience (@MishaTurtleX) ~ Either make a deal or get your economy wrecked.

In a way, this feels like Trump is calling their bluff.

Mirthful Moments (@moment_mirthful) ~ President Trump has been talking about other countries, "beating the hell out of us," over free trade since the 80s. No one ever listened to him. Now, he has the power to even the playing field. Let's go! Thank you, President Trump!

Arlin (@Arlin4US) ~ One by one, we will settle the trade negotiations and all of them will be better for America.
