BREAKING: Walmart dumps cold water all over the MAGA movement by announcing over $6 billion in investments in Mexico this year — despite Donald Trump's promise that his tariffs would force companies back to America.
The entire tariffs lie just went up in smoke. And it gets even worse for Trump...
Ignacio Caride, President and CEO of Walmart de México y Centroamérica, made the announcement at Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum's morning news conference.
Sheinbaum has proven to be a fierce opponent of Donald Trump, expertly outplaying him at every turn while engendering deep affection from her people. Meanwhile, Trump is despised by most Americans.
Caride said that new store openings will create roughly 5,500 jobs in Mexico.
"Walmart arrived in Mexico more than 65 years ago, and we will be here for the next 30, 60, or 90 years," said Caride.
President Sheinbaum also called out Trump for announcing a new "permanent" 25% tariff on all automobiles imported to the United States—
"Of course, there should be no tariffs within the United States-Mexico-Canada trade agreement. That is the essence of the trade agreement," she said.
She went on to state that she believes that tariffs on Mexican goods can still be avoided. Trump has delayed tariffs on our southern neighbor twice already. That postponement elapses next month — but given Sheinbaum's record of playing Trump like a fiddle, the smart money is on her.
Crucially for Americans, this Walmart announcement reveals the central lie behind Trump's tariffs. Our economy is in shambles and prices are skyrocketing, but MAGA has promised that the "short term" suffering will be worth it when countries flock back to the United States.
That isn't going to happen. The only thing that these tariffs will accomplish is lightening your wallet and destroying your retirement funds.
