During WWII both China and Russia were our allies.
Post WWII China remained a 'third world' country until sometime around the 1980's.
Post WWII Russia was looking at expanding West through Europe - and is why NATO was founded. Then 'Russia gots Nukes' and the Cold War got running pretty good.
Russia with Nukes and ICBM's made Russia a threat to the U.S. Particularly when one realizes America was the 'prime stopper' of Russian aggression westward through Europe.
Let us not forget Russia's role in the Korean conflict. And wasn't Russia also an ally of North Vietnam during Sir Ribit's little S.E.Asia adventure?
