I don't quite know what they mean with the "far-right" label. I don't follow German politics at all closely, but the label is used to mean a number of dissimilar things, from libertarian (reduced government) to anti-illegal immigration (pro-legal borders) to indigenous cultural pride (unimpressed by claims that traditional cultures are wicked) to Trumplike corrupt strongman to Nazi subtext (kill non-Arians).
Some of these things are more a perspective that can be sensible or harsh depending on circumstances, while others are always scary and horrifying. And then sometimes there's a mix of things.
I have often found partisan labels disguise reality rather than revealing it. Not sure if the same applies with the AfD. In the US I used to call it Limbaugh labelling because the right does it particularly.
For me, I get sympathetic to what is called far right politics when taxes are extremely high and government seems bloated (but I like it when it does construcive things), immigration (which I think is good on a non-invasive scale) is excessive, or folks shout about white privilege or that the West is inherently guilty for one thing or another (no country will ever conform with future ideas of right and wrong). But when the far right is isolationist or pro-Putin or fascist, then I am not ever on that side.
