Probably the usual problem with markets. They often fail to balance security and profitability well. The corners they cut lead to product failures. And a plane that fails is a metal tube without the benefit of lift.

BREAKING: Boeing will plead guilty to criminal fraud charge tied to fatal 737 Max crashes, DOJ says
Boeing will plead guilty to a criminal fraud charge tied to fatal 737 Max crashes, the Justice Department said, months after U.S. prosecutors said the aerospace giant violated a 2021 settlement that shielded it from prosecution.

Under the deal, which requires the approval of a federal judge, Boeing would pay a $243.6 million fine.
