It does sound extremely low by US standards.

I guess it reflects what everyone agreed was a fair level of culpability.

But that is surprising in this case.

Geez, $2 million sounds insulting.

The city of Uvalde, Texas, reached a $2 million settlement with families of children shot in a 2022 massacre at a public school.
Wednesday, May 22, 2024 1:29 PM ET

To avert a lawsuit, the city also promised to overhaul its police force and create a permanent memorial to victims of the shooting. The families are also suing other agencies.
