Thanks nacl01 ! Smile Smile

Its more than I knew so it was helpful! As anyone can see, I am not a gardener and definitely not a farmer. I did plant some tomato plants my son in law started last year and they did really well. They were ROMA variety.

The earth I planted them in was well fertilized from prior years of disposing of my dogs manure in various deep holes mixed with good top soil and that sat for lots of years.

Can ya tell I know nothing about gardening??

Heirloom plants are traditional favorites and produce a similar crop generation after generation. Hybrids are commercial crosses between teo specific varieties. The seeds you get produce the desired variety (Early Girl, Celebrity, 1000 others), but the next generation often reverts to various characteristics of the original parents. That is about all I know about plant genetics. Clearly heirlooms came from other varieties, but I don’t know how someone keeps breeding them to get something stable.
