Florida school district apologizes for assembly singling out Black students over low test scores
Teachers told a group of Black elementary schoolers that having lower grades gave them a higher chance of going to jail, getting shot or getting killed, parents said.
The administrators at a public Florida elementary school are being condemned for requiring that all Black 4th and 5th grade students attend an assembly where they were warned that low test-scores would lead to them under-performing in school and later in life. They also told these students that higher test-scores would make it easier for them to get into college and would probably protect them from going to jail or being shot and killed. No White students were required to attend these sessions, only the Black students.
