Tomorrow morning (early) we're flying to Detroit for our youngest son's wedding, which will be Saturday afternoon. Originally the wedding was planned for August 26th and we were going to drive, but they moved it up to the 19th as the bride's mother is flying in from Ireland, accompanied by a niece who's a teacher and she has to get back before classes start (our son's fiance is Irish). The reason that we couldn't have driven this week is because we've had company all week (who won't be leaving until tomorrow as well), the gal who was maid-of-honor at our wedding and her son, who're also from Michigan.
Anyway, we're flying through Dallas/Fort Worth and will be returning on August 30th, ahead of the Labor Day travel madness.
The wedding is turning into a sort of 'family reunion' with our son inviting most of his cousins, however, only one of his brothers can make it as our oldest son is currently driving from Texas to the UP of Michigan as our granddaughter has to check in at the college this weekend to start her orientation (again, if the original date had held, he and his wife would have been able to make the wedding as well).
While we're in Michigan we plan to visit some of the relatives who can't make it to the wedding, like my next younger brother, who tore his Achilles tendon a couple of weeks ago and can't make the wedding, and my sister, who's confined to a senior care home.
We're staying with my wife's sister but then she and her kids are all going to be at the wedding as well so it going to be something.
With all this in mind, we're planning to complete the cycle, 'trains, planes and automobiles' with our trip to New Mexico in October for the annular (ring-of-fire) solar eclipse.
