I just learned of this, Israel has NO constitution. Since the founding of the country, they have depended heavily on their court system to define and defend the basic freedoms of the citizens of Israel, this is why this is blowing up to be such a big issue because many Israelis believe that without a strong court that it would be very easy for a autocratic leader to take over the country. And keep in mind that Netanyahu and his wife are still under threat of being tried and convicted of corruption and any such verdict would be appealed to the nation's Supreme Court.
