No shit Sherlock…..

Neighbor I ride with, who goes to the gym, has no fat on his body, rides about 250 miles peer week, and is in great shape, got covid last Mo day night. By Friday his fe er went to 103.8, slept all the time and couldn’t swallow. Throat was coarser than asphalt. I suggested ….Paxlovid. He said he was afraid of recurrence and side effects. I started getting …..upset. I texted him that recurrence is nothing, he could be dead and not have one, instead of perhaps testing positive again with minor symptoms. His choice. As for side effects, he should check with the pharmacist or doctor if he is taking any medications, other than that all the people I know who took it had none.

History: He’s taken three shots, last one a year ago. I had told him to get the 4th last summer, he didn’t, then last Oct to take the new bivalent(original+Omicron), he didn’t, THEREFORE HE IS CONSIDERED UNVACCINATED PER THE CDC.

This time HE LISTENED. His doctor prescribed Paxvlovid and he started Friday night. Last I talked to him was yesterday and he was improving.

He did not wear a mask indoors, lived like it was 2019. His antibodies and luck ran out. He was misinformed and got real sick. And we don’t know how this ends, long covid, etc. For an exercise freak who gets up with the chickens to go riding hard for 60 miles 4-5 times a week, it could be devastating. When you do 22-27mph for much of that distance, that means 150-170 beats for heartrate(and more depending on age), etc. It is not peanuts. You are in amazing shape.

That’s how it works in general. YMMV.

We’re all different, respond different, but that doesn’t mean there is no baseline and science and medical advice is bullshit.

Latest: He is very tired, sleeping a lot, and gets sweats at night. Going to doctor tomorrow.
