I'd also find many others in the GOP list more acceptable than DeSantis. I'm supportive of him in the GOP race because right now, he's the only one with reasonable numbers who isn't Trump.

On a wider basis, he was supportive of a trade deal with the UK. And before he went wobbly on Ukraine, he looked like he might be capable of running a sane GOP foreign policy too.

As I've mentioned already too many times, Biden hasn't been great for the UK and I'd like a change from the patronising and self-absorbed attitude of that generation of Dem leaders, who cannot stand that we left the EU and did so by democratic means.

I agree that his judgement is looking very poor. But in a GOP primary, regardless of his abortion stance, he's still a better choice than Trump. And in GOP terms, that's what would count for me.

Regarding the importance of abortion generally as an issue...

Didn't we just see the GOP win the House in spite of this? Maybe it did some damage, but those for whom it is the key issue are already not voting for the GOP.

My point isn't that the majority of women want to retain their control of these decisions. It's that they vote about other issues too and for a number of them, those other issues take priority.
