By comparison, the collective West lost Boris Johnson, who was an important voice in the anti-Putin alliance, over a piffling 10 minute appearance at an office gathering on his way upstairs to his Downing Street flat during covid.

I consider that a huge mistake in terms of the Ukraine war and a risk going forward. It elevates the influence of the folks who were less committed at the beginning and who may sell Ukraine to Putin given the opportunity. The Ukraine War determines the future of Europe and global energy politics for decades to come. We must win it.

So that's in the background of my thinking. Right now, we can't afford to be too precious.

I don't follow Israeli politics closely but they sometimes produce tough nuts like Netanyahu. I presume this is because that isn't a peaceful part of the world.

From various press reports, it sounds like Netanyahu may also be corrupt for his own benefit and not just a rule-breaker in service of the state. So, yes, worrying news. I gather there are significant protests.

One way or another, however, in the realm of relative problems, I worry about Putin's influence and his ties with Iran and Saudi Arabia in that part of the world, and if Israel is on our side, then that is the biggest issue for me at the minute.
