Hair styles can make a person look a certain way. And parents are allowed to tell their children about it.
Labelling those parents as racist just isn't the right word. Normal, concerned and caring are more appropriate.
This American label thing is getting very old. Words like racist are useful when you talk about Hitler gassing Jews or plantation owners whipping black slaves. They are useless and damaging when applied to everyday interactions between benign folks and easily offended, self-righteous people. Even worse are those who sit on a sofa on television and go, "oh how awful. Poor you." Yuck.
