More migrants are crossing the northern border into the U.S. as Mexicans fly to Canada and then head south
Apprehensions along one stretch of the Canadian border that touches parts of New York, Vermont and New Hampshire rose more than 700% from the last quarter of 2021 to the same period last year.
For many of the migrants — more than 60% are from Mexico — the prospects of not being sent back to their home country are much better in the freezing north than at the southern border.
