De

I run ccleaner every single day. I also run Malwarebytes pro which I purchased some years ago. It came with ten licenses then and I have used them all on different machines. Between the two I don't really have cookie accumulations and I use the VPN on opera.

For whatever reason cookies have been used by websites for a long time and likely will be with us for a long time to come..

But, you knew that....

Today, for the first time in 25 years, I disabled cookies - just to see what would happen. It was not good. I couldn't get into email on either of the two sites I tried. I couldn't get into Facebook, or Amazon, or even IMGBB.com (where the images I post are usually housed.) I couldn't see comments on Breitbart articles - because authentication is required and I authenticate via Facebook. In short, it was a mess. I was able to fix some of the problems (Chrome lets you turn off cookies but create a white list of sites where they're allowed) but it didn't fix ENOUGH of the problems to be a real solution.

That might not surprise you guys - but I bet this will. While I had cookies disabled, CCleaner *continued* to report the accrual of large numbers of tracking cookies. WTH???

I know that the tracking cookies come from browsing to websites, so I can't blame Windows for their presence. If I don't browse, I don't get the cookies. But turning off cookies does not stop or even appreciably slow down their rate of accrual.

I'm inclined to think that Google is responsible. After all, if disabling cookies in Google's browser doesn't block tracking cookies, who else can you blame? It's Google.

I've now enabled cookies again and am resigning myself to running CCleaner at least once every day. Whadda pain.
