ain't it the truth?

Mathematics and sciences are so much different and advanced in college, especially if one is majoring in one of those fields, than anybody gets in high school.

There is a reason for that.. I always enjoy running into people pretending to be an engineer. When I ask them about their discipline they just stare at me. When I ask about the university they attended they stutter. And then the truth finally comes out.

I am not saying one learns everything there is to know about everything in college, but ya sure do get a very good advanced head start that enables one to be able to think logically thru problems they may see they have to solve that were not covered in the classroom or textbooks. It teaches us HOW to think and find solutions like a light shining on a path.. It teaches where to locate the resources needed to help solve things we may not have run into before..

But mainly, it teaches us HOW TO THINK critically.

Sorry. Off my soapbox now.... I'mon a roll this morning.. Laughing Laughing

Re: “I have talked with applicants who were college grads who were some of the dumbest people I ever met.”
That's a great point. 'Educated' and 'High I.Q.' have totally different meanings.

I think I posted (or saw) a story here a few weeks ago about a college that is dropping algebra as a requirement because too many students are unable to pass it. Wow. It suggests we'll have a future in which 'College Educated' and 'Well Educated' also have totally different meanings.

In other news, one of my son's high school friends is on FB posting photos of her awesome job working the 'Winnie-The-Pooh' ride at Disney World. That's what her $125,000 drama degree bought for her.
