From what I've been reading . . . A lot of Russian 'volunteers' were 'contract soldiers' many of whom got killed in Ukraine and others are not renewing their contracts.
Some fighting age male Russians have fled the country to keep from being drafted and killed in Ukraine.
Putin done stripped the jails of convicts to conscript them.
Which suggests if Putin is going to grow his Army . . . he will have to conscript folks out of the 'working economy'. Further crippling it.
An interesting question . . "What is Putin going to do with a million and a half troops?"
