Americans are happier to see a man expressing himself. Freedom. The American dream of liberation from all constraints. Escaping from victimhood. Making money by selling your story is just fine. If nothing else, a soap opera.
Britons think of the royal family as representing the ideal of duty. Duty to the institution and to the country. The heart of trust and self-confidence in our nation. Everything the queen stood for. Harry has breached that brazanly and wantonly. We see him as selling his soul for a buck. A sort of Benedict Arnold with a title.
I'm British and I prefer our interpretation, in which he is seen as a malevolent and pompous prat. But I think his story must appeal to woke Americans and some Still-fighting-the-war-of-independence Americans.
