Meanwhile, some are suggesting a Ukraine offensive towards Melitopol and the coast of the Sea pf Azov will happen soon. This would split Russia's northeastern and southern forces in two and make it very difficult to reallocate resources from one to the other.

If successful, the rest of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson would certainly fall. And Ukraine would then control the south up to the border of Crimea and much of the territory that it has held since 2014. After that, it's a question of squeezing Russia out of the Donbas, and finally, forcing them off the Crimean peninsula.

Sounds like the sort of idea of which Vlad the mad double-downer would approve.

But this time, Ukraine is better prepared. And Russia's capabilities are much reduced.

And by March, it's mud season again.
