Harming Russia is, of course, the only diplomatic language Putin understands. He will only behave reasonably when he thinks it is his only option. Otherwise it is all bullying all the time. He doesn't want a friendly neighbourhood. He wants a subserviant one. He will only respect his neighbours if he fears them. Being a porcupine to the Russian bear is the obvious position for Ukraine to take.

Maybe time for Ukraine to roll out the long range rockets they recently acquired from the US and fire then towards the harbour at Sebastapol. The Black Sea fleet is now within range.
