I guess he changed his mind since college!

Not a disqualifying characteristic, in my view.

As you know, I think theories about rights and assertions of morality aren't going to solve these sorts of issues.

I'm more of a "How long do you really need to make a choice?" sort of person in normal circumstances. We have the technology to know whether a woman is pregnant and it isn't invasive. So then, pee on the strip and make a choice within a reasonable time frame. Choice and abortion limits both given a bit of respect.
