Ha ha ha.

Ukraine, Turkey and the UN kept on sending the wheat cargo ships and Putin realised sinking them would have been a disaster for him. Russia's support in places like Africa and maybe as far afield as China would have fallen apart.

So his bluff was called. He no longer controls the wheat traffic from Ukraine. The Russian-made wheat famine is history.

Erdogan has helped Putin save face by not pointing out his humiliation. But this is a poke in the eye, all the same. Another strategic failure. He can't weaponise wheat. Another hostage escapes.

Excellent news.

Russia said it was rejoining a deal allowing grain shipments from Ukraine’s ports, easing uncertainty for countries facing severe food shortages.

Moscow had suspended its participation in the deal over the weekend in response to an attack on Russian naval ships in Crimea that it blamed on Ukraine.
