BREAKING: Paul Flores convicted of murder in the 1996 killing of Kristin Smart
Paul Flores, 45, was found guilty in the killing of Kristin Smart, a California college student who disappeared in 1996. His father, Ruben Flores, 81, was acquitted of accessory after the fact. The younger Flores, who had long been considered a suspect in the killing but was only arrested in 2021, was convicted of first-degree murder.
Prosecutors said Paul Flores killed Smart during an attempted rape in his dorm room at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Her body was never found.
