If Russia is reduced into smaller parts, then there's China, the US and India to dice. And finally the rest of the world doesn't have anything to fear from countries that have got too big.

I expect at least one break at the Urals between east and west Russia. By far the larger part by population is to the west of the Urals.

I'd hope the eastern part of Russia would remain independent, like the Stans. The worry would be that China comes to dominate Central Asia. It would be a lot better if the Stans (from Kazakhstan to Pakistan) support one another.

Siberia is also something a bit different.

Then there's the European part of Russia. It would be nice to split it between Karelia in the north, a Baltic and White Sea country, and Muscovy in the south, with the Caspian and Black Sea coasts within its scope.

So three or four independent, non-threatening countries rather than the horrid regional bully, which has justified its reduction into parts without anyone's help.
