One day, I expect my dogma of focussing on the middle of the income curve will be the norm.

But politics so often is prejudiced either towards the very wealthy or the least. One set of ideas generates gross inequality. The other intends equality but never achieves it.

But there are other ideals in between those two. Yes to wealth incentives. Yes to protections for the vulnerable. I can encompass both without feeling hypocritical.

What my sort of politician seeks is the balance which secures the most happiness, knowing also that the most that wealth can contribute to happiness is to remove the fear of not surviving. If you achieve that goal as a society, I see no need for a government to interfere. By all means, try to make yourself relatively rich if you think great wealth is where happiness lies. But it isn't the only way. Nor do many philosophers think it is the most successful method.

The desirable income curve for me is flat at the bottom, then gently curves upwards at the top. No grinding poverty. Little or no wealth concentration. But plenty of successful, wealthy people.
