Hope you are right.

Unless the US gets a grip, the period of American dominance will be over sooner rather than later. Trust is a big part of the glue in a society, and I see it failing at the moment.

I can see ways out, but none that Americans (at least a majority of them) are willing to take. I've mentioned some, as you know. The rights-based model isn't fit for purpose. You don't have a viable trust architecture to deal with a rogue president. You can disunite into segments in which people see eye to eye. You can depoliticise the law. etc. But doing the same thing over and over is what's actually happening. And this road runs over a cliff.
