I don't think papers like the Washington Post and NY times report this, because Merkel was the person the Dems focussed their strategy of supporting the EU on.

That it turned out to be an illusion and that she made huge strategic blunders of this sort is embarrassing, I guess. Another blunder was opening EU borders to a wave of illegal immigrants in numbers too large to absorb. Another was ruling out a two-speed EU, which would have allowed countries to be part of the union but with different levels of involvement: akin to the way North America has sovereign countries in it, including the US, but it is also linked by trade relationships.

So liberal newspaper editors cover their heads in the sand. And US foreign policy has been the worse for it eg in expecting insight about Russian plans and substantial military help for Ukraine from Germany and France, which led the US to make a slow start in its response. But thank goodness, now it has the bit between its teeth.

Will the Dems revisit their ideas about the EU? Will they realise that the push to turn Europe into one nation causes more problems than it solves? Sadly, they will not.

what a relief it is that the UK is not consuming Russian gas. Although all of the disruption means world natural gas prices are likely to rise to crazy numbers.

The EU desperately needs other energy sources.

You never know. They might invest even more heavily in green machinery and nuclear power and help save the planet. A plus!

Meanwhile, the Germans must be cursing Angela Merkel. What a terrible set of decisions she made, all of which left Germany dependent on Russia.
