Indeed.

And that's why so many are trying their luck in civil court. The bar is set fairly low. It often comes down to a 50-50, he said - she said situation. Dishonest people see that and think it's worth a pop for $25m. It's becoming an epidemic.

The ones who are willing to accuse a person in criminal court usually do it because they feel they have been wronged. The lack of a financial incentive tends to mean they are more trustworthy.

For myself, I'd like to see penalties for false claims in a civil court. There has to be a disincentive to fishing for a payout.

To win in criminal court, you must prove beyond a reasonable doubt.

To win in Civil court you must prove by a preponderance of the evidence.
