Have to say, it is a very long time ago. But by my count, it is 47 years, not 55.

Not sure we should be applying 2020s values to 1970s events. My memory of that decade was that things looked very different. Back then, folks were worried about sexual repression of teenagers, and not the protection of 15 and 16 year-olds from sex so much. It was the era after the 1960s.

The enemy of a sexually emancipated society in 1970s Britain was a straitlaced person called Mary Whitehouse who seemed to be defending exactly what we thought we were trying to escape from.

We seem to be inhabiting a new age of censure. Which couldn't be more different.

Glad he'll never be in the hall of fame!

Pete Rose dismisses questions over statutory rape claims in return to Philadelphia: 'It was 55 years ago, babe'

....
In court documents, Rose admitted that he had sex with the female but claimed that he did not do so until 1975, when she was 16 years old, and he was playing for the Cincinnati Reds. The suit would later be dismissed after both sides reached an agreement. In Ohio, 16 years of age is considered the age of consent.
