It's all about timing.

Once Russia has been ejected from Ukraine and Putin replaced by someone sensible, by all means pressure China to back off.

Or put another way with less rhetoric, she's poking China in the eye.

The US needs to have one person running foreign policy: the president. And it ought to have a purpose that makes sense in the situation we have in front of us.

When you are winning one war in Ukraine, get that done with first. Fighting two wars at the same time will be even less fun. Whether they do something direct is not entirely clear. They may simply make a display of their power by tangential means.

What she's done is to make Putin happy. He wants China's support. Amongst other things, now they'll probably provide more of it.

More dead people for the sake of a pointless gesture. China would have backed down in Taiwan if we'd waited for Putin to lose. By seeming to humiliate them, now they will have to respond. And that means everything is going to be more painful going forward, not less.

She is responsible for that. She's caused them to lose face. The worst thing to do. We'll be awfully lucky if all they do in response is sabre-rattling. Damn she's thoughtless.

"The White House worked urgently to de-escalate tensions with China as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi met Wednesday with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and other officials during a high-profile visit to the self-governing island against the administration’s wishes, hoping to head off a geopolitical crisis amid threats and military maneuvers by Beijing...

“We’ve seen a number of announcements from the [People’s Republic of China] in just the last several hours that are unfortunately right in line with what we had anticipated,” White House spokesman John Kirby said Tuesday afternoon. “China has positioned itself to take further steps, and we expect that they will continue to react over a longer-term horizon.”"
