The time of day can make all of the difference.

Early morning & after 3 pm are probably the safest.

We have a spell coming, but we've been lucky in NY to date.

It is summer ;)

Good grief! The weather people in the UK are ridiculous about hot weather.

First of all they said it would be hotter than it actually was. But it was certainly hottish. Mid-90s. Then they said we shouldn't exercise due to the risk. Well, guess what. The dog still needs to walk, and the river is a nice place, so we walked there. And we didn't drop down dead. Either of us. Because 90s is, well, something nearly everyone has been in, if only on holiday. It isn't hotter just because it happened in the UK.
