In some ways, I think many (not all) people are fine with saying trans women are women.
In other ways, I think many (not all) people would say they are not: eg for cellular biology, sports, toilets, relationships.
We humans are not good at dealing with things that are hard to define. And we get angry because others won't accept our simplified meanings. But reality is what it is, and it doesn't necessarily conform to our dogmas.
The thing is that trying to make any conversation about trans people a rights-based one doesn't really work. The issues with trans people aren't simply about them. They are about how their choices affect others. Other people have their own interests. Some of these are damaged by the assertion of trans rights: eg a man who wants to have children would be harmed by a lack of candor about a trans person's ability to get pregnant; or eg a genetic female athlete is disadvantaged by a trans athlete's biological characteristics.
So in spite of the impassioned arguments, I don't think the conversation is anything but complicated.
