I don't really blame Biden. It's just what the party is. The left of it has no sense that people have different ideas of virtue and that theirs depend upon assumed premises just like the bible-thumpers do.
Swimming competitions is a great example of the issue: the idea that trans people deserve acceptance as women (ie a respectable space in life) ran over the notion that women's sport only works on a level playing field. Inadvertently and without malice, trans people spoil women's swimming. It isn't a race. It's a procession.
Instead of this, you end up making choices and/or finding least bad compromises.
Of course, the fanatics won't accept it. Something that seems right and logical to them can't possibly also do harm, they assume. But that's exactly how reality operates all the time.
And that's why I say the thing I do about a rights-based constitution. Intrinsically, it misses the point that rights invariably overlap. Even things like speech, religion and assembly cannot be free without doing damage on the margin. Gun rights, same thing. And on down the list.
