Ballot meltdown in Michigan resets GOP race for governor as disqualified candidates lose appeal
A major upheaval is afoot in Michigan’s Republican primary for governor, leaving the party with no obvious front-runner to challenge Democratic incumbent Gretchen Whitmer this fall.
The two leading GOP candidates, who had been disqualified from the August primary ballot after their candidacy petitions were rejected because of allegedly forged signatures, lost their appeals Friday. Party leaders and voters, meanwhile, are scrambling to reassess the five remaining candidates.
