I am not sure I fully understand the importance of Snake Island beyond the symbollism. Perhaps it makes a very useful position from which to control shipping in the area.

The Admiral Makarov is the dog that didn't bark in the night. Why wasn't it providing air protection to Snake Island? Perhaps it was damaged after all.
