I think the 18% are probably thinking of the rights of the child - as they define it - rather than wishing illwill on the mother, although that is the effect.

The people on either side of this discussion aren't wicked people. They just have different ideas of what matters most.

But discussions over what people think of as undilutable rights and supreme virtues will never end well.

It's a pity SCOTUS opened this hornet's nest. it's not because they have clever constitutional thoughts. Alito never does. It's because he's catholic and is determined to impose those ideas on society. Same as it ever was. Poor old Galileo.

Americans overwhelmingly support permitting abortion in certain cases. Eighty-two percent say abortion should be legal when the woman’s physical health is endangered, and 79 percent say abortion should be legal when the pregnancy was caused by rape or incest. Meanwhile, 67 percent say abortion should be legal when there is evidence of serious birth defects.
