At least 4 injured in shooting near Connecticut Ave. NW, police say
D.C. authorities say they’re still searching for the shooter
Police identified a person of interest in a shooting Friday in which four people, including a child, were injured by what appeared to be indiscriminate gunfire that erupted in a busy area along Connecticut Avenue in Northwest Washington. The shooting plunged schools into lockdown and sent terrified residents running for safety.
Police were still searching for the shooter nearly five hours after the first shots were reported about 3:20 p.m. in the Van Ness area, keeping the neighborhood and the city on edge and prompting police to warn on Twitter that there was an “active threat.”
Authorities said that a man and woman were critically hurt and that a 12-year-old child suffered a minor injury. Another woman had a graze wound but did not go to a hospital.
Police identified the person of interest as Raymond Spencer, 23, of Fairfax, Va., and said his name emerged on social media posts. Police cautioned that Spencer is wanted for questioning.
