Sounds sensible.

You don't want to leave the precedent in place that the US government cannot apply a mandate to combat a pandemic. That's nuts.

But I don't see a point in a mask requirement any more. Voluntary is fine at this point. Everyone had the opportunity to get a jab. And there isn't much else we can do to return to normal. Covid is just going to be a risk like car crashes and cancer.

BREAKING: Justice Department says it will appeal ruling striking down mask requirement for transportation if CDC deems the mandate necessary
The Justice Department said Tuesday that it would appeal the federal judge’s ruling that lifted the Biden administration’s mandate that masks be worn on planes, trains and other forms of public transportation — should the CDC conclude the requirement “remains necessary for public health.”

The Justice Department will not, however, ask the court to stay the decision, meaning passengers will be able to continue going maskless if the decision is litigated. Numerous airlines and public transit systems have announced that masks are now optional.
