Talk about a strategic backfire for Russia.
Assuming Ukraine survives its war, we might as well bring them in too. There isn't going to be a neutral barrier any more between Russia and the rest of Europe. Not because the West demanded these countries join NATO. But because Putin couldn't accept that Ukraine was a sovereign nation. And so its other neighbours realised there was no benefit to being friendly to Russia.
Putin just doesn't understand human psychology. Because he lacks any warmth himself. These are the mistakes of a sociopath. The Finns and Swedes are acting as anyone would who discover a monster lives next door.
