That's true.

But at the moment, is there any sign he's conducting one?

Everyone seems to be saying there's not the slightest hint that Trump is being investigated.

I am not sure how obvious it needs to be that Trump tried to organise a coup. Maybe because he didn't get a tattoo written on his forehead saying "I am a coup plotter" it is in doubt.

There is such a difference between Barr & Garland.

Garland comes to the job with clean hands & a stellar history.
He wants to bring honor back to the DoJ, and reaffirm the importance of separation from the presidency.

Keep in mind, this is a first, holding a president to account, legally. He needs to be sure to have everything in order.
You only have once chance to 'kill' the king.'
