I haven't followed the case so know nothing about the merits or whether the punishment is proportionate.

But it does read a little bit like the court thinks Denver has a money tree.

Glad your people are wealthy enough to afford massive wealth transfers of this type, because it is the taxpayer who pays, one way or another, not the actual police people.

It would probably be naive to think awards of this type are going to cure the issues they focus on, if that's the argument.

Racial justice activists awarded $14 million in landmark case against Denver police

DENVER, March 25 (Reuters) - A federal court jury on Friday awarded $14 million to a dozen activists who sued Denver police, claiming excessive force was used against peaceful protesters during racial injustice demonstrations following the death of George Floyd in 2020.

The city of Denver has previously settled several civil complaints stemming from the police response to the Floyd protests, but the lawsuit decided Friday was the first such case in the nation to go to trial, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, which represents several of the plaintiffs.

The verdict, delivered after about three hours of jury deliberations, capped a three-week trial in U.S. District Court in Denver.
