I thought you opposed Merkel when she took in refugees?

How Angela Merkel’s great migrant gamble paid off
....

“I put it simply, Germany is a strong country,” the German chancellor told the media at a press conference in central Berlin on 31 August 2015, trying to address concerns about the steeply rising number of people – mostly from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan – applying for asylum in Germany that summer.

“The motive with which we approach these matters must be: we have already managed so much, we’ll manage this.” During the German TV broadcast of her interview, headlines flashed up to report that Hungary was sending trainloads of people to the German border, 20,000 of whom turned up at Munich central station the following week alone.

It's their weak positioning with respect to Putin which is one main cause of this mess. They made themselves dependent on Russian energy. They always undermine sanctions. They have no military to speak of and have never met the NATO minimum investment in defence in spite of being on or near the front line. Of course, Putin takes advantage in Ukraine knowing there is this weakness at the heart of Europe.

The consequence should be that Germany should accept a large share of the consequences.

Time for Germany to house and fund Ukraine's refugees.

I hope everyone else takes a share too. But the main burden belongs to Germany, whose policies towards Putin have been disastrous.
