The underlying problem is that the system of trust in the US is completely broken.

The notion that there's something higher than partisanship, wealth and even the mere text of the law doesn't really exist any more. Truth is the casualty of dogma and justice the sacrificial victim of the lust for power.

The whole point of constitutional structures is to secure these values. Maybe it can't be done with a scrap of paper. That's certainly what I think. You want a trustworthy institution to manage the features of a democracy that depend upon trust in order to function. And SCOTUS isn't it. Clearly democracy won't survive a situation in which one side threatens a coup if it loses.

I imagine the draft EO was all part of the plan that depended on Pence joining the coup gang.

They were trying to take over the US regardless of the election result, Putin-fashion. Next steps, (1) replace Milley with Flynn; (2) if the American people had tried to break free, you'd have American and Russian troops on US streets with shoot-to-kill orders; (3) all future elections would be rigged.

In the end, Pence did a heroic thing lining up behind US democracy and the rule of law. But the US still has a huge problem. Putin has worked out how to do this now, even if Agent Orange failed this first time.

The plotters, one would guess, are Putin's team in the US. You want them all in jail for sedition.
