He has an explanation. It may not be perfect, but my understanding, for what it's worth as a non-medical person, is that a person who has recently had covid is probably in as robust an immune condition as someone who has had a jab but hasn't had covid.
If I reset my understanding re Australia, I don't see why they wouldn't let him in if he's unlikely to transmit the disease.
I'm not wanting to look for other issues (eg whether he travelled before he ended up in Australia) and failed to tell the truth on his form. It was whether he was likely to bring covid to Australia that really mattered, and whether he was getting a wealthy person's exemption, which isn't the Australian way. Or as some Americans would say, socialism!

Photos showed him in public without a mask on Dec. 17. After Australian immigration authorities detained him, he won an appeal for release, though an immigration judge must still decide whether he can stay in the country and compete. Maddern has apologized, and Seven Network Director of News and Public Affairs Craig McPherson said in a statement: “The illegal recording was of a private conversation between two colleagues. It was an underhanded, cowardly act.”
